It's kind of funny how you were supposed to save the day,
How my hope was hung around your neck like a chain,
It's hilarious how I kneeled in front of you and gave in
To every whim you had because you were my knight.
It's kind of funny how you rose from the darkness in my life
And stood on my pedestal in the moonlight like in a spotlight,
Your armor shining like the brightest stars,
Your eyes shining like the meadow in the sunshine...
Your smile gentle as if to warm the soul inside my ribs...
And it's kind of funny how your sword was the sharpest,
How it sliced through my fears and my demons with ease,
Your voice the softest honey velvet prayer
My ears have ever heard.
And it's kind of funny how my hope was your anchor,
Pulling you down through the anger in darkness,
Your armor rusted when I saw you in daylight,
Saw your flaws for what they actually were...
Your sword were your words, sharper and darker,
Slicing through me like hot knives through butter
And you broke me and brought me down...
I laugh now that I know my knight in shining armor
Was nothing but a fraud covered in aluminum foil.
