String
So many legends speak of us as halves destined to reunite
And so many legends tell of strings attached - confining us
To one another so perfectly, so permanently!
I remember the days when you and I used to dream
Each other's dreams... and when you had nightmares,
I'd be the one to scream.
I remember laying down and sitting still enough
Just so I could feel your heart's beat making my chest
Vibrate, making my mind race, my blood warm...
I could feel the string we tied around our hearts,
Since I was a child, I searched for you,
I longed for you, my butterfly...
And when we met, we knew we found the one.
So many legends speak of us as halves destined to reunite
And so many legends tell of strings attached - confining us
To one another so perfectly, so permanently... and yet
I struggle to believe these legends,
Now that you have torn our string...
You found another that fits more perfectly into the mold
You made, the mold I helped her fit herself into...
The mold I never had.
Somehow we broke our strings, and I can't feel a thing,
But I can't help but feel so numb... since I have mourned
Our "love". And things could have been better,
Had we fought for right to remain untouched,
But with so much war, I am done with promises.
So many legends speak of us as halves destined to reunite
And so many legends tell of strings attached - confining us
To one another so perfectly, so permanently...
But legends are legends, and remain silly stories
To tell the romantics when they meet their spouses,
But not the broken hearted who now know
Their string is broken. So tie this one well,
Because unlike me... her heart is not in pieces,
Her heart is not of stone.
So tie this one well, because if this one breaks
You won't have a thing left.
